Every couple of years, Rotary District 5100 has a Major Donor appreciation event to honor Rotaries generous donors, including Arch Klumph Society, Bequest Society, Paul Harris Society and others, in an intimate setting.
This year however, the Major Donor Appreciation event was out of this world. The "Shoot for the Moon" Rotary District 5100 dinner was inspired by the upcoming Artemis mission, which will send a rocket up and around the moon and back, covering almost a million miles. Rotary District 5100 "Shoot for the Moon" event launched a campaign to raise $1,000,000 in new Rotary Foundation contributions, bequests, and pledges.
Saturday, October 19, 2024, was a galactic evening celebration held at the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum in McMinnville, with featured cellist Diego Carneiro, 2024 Rotary Peace Fellow, and sopranist Janet Chvatal, 1987 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar. Janet is also an author of children's books. Every attendee received a copy of her book, The Wish Prince, Let's Live Our Dreams! (El Principe de Los Deseos, Vivamos nuestros Suenos!
Salem Creekside Rotary was honored at the galactic event for our major service project, Dolly Parton Imagination Library, providing free books every month to children from 0 - 5 years of age and our unique approach to advertising through the Dolly Holiday Float and Children's Favorite Character Adventure.
Keynote speakers, Susan Helms, NASA’s first female astronaut and Rotary International President, Stephanie Urchick shared in the evening's celebrations. Rotary Internation President, Stephanie Urchick thanked Rotarians for their generosity to The Rotary Foundation.
President Stephanie’s message was about launching Rotary into the future with innovation and relevance to a new generation of Rotarians, while staying true to our values, promoting peace, and finishing our promise to eradicate polio. It was truly a magnificent galactic experience raising over $1,800,000 in new donations. Come, join in the adventure of Rotary.
